Fountains Abbey
Fountains Abbey was originally founded in 1132 by 13 Benedictine monks looking for a simpler life. They later became Cisterian Monks.
The Abbey and it's buildings were sold in later years, and passed down through generations.
Fountains Hall, an Elizabethen mansion, was built partly out of stone from the Abbey ruins. There are two rooms in this mansion that are
open to the public.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal allows visitors to discover a wealth of history and heritage, magnificent buildings, and sweeping landscapes.
Fountains Abbey is also host to family activities, walks and guided tours and evening events including concerts with firework finales,
theatre and opera.
