Hi, new member here and I'm looking for information about my family who lived in Ripon in the 1800's.
My Great great great grandfather James Armstrong was born in Carlisle in about 1782 and from Census records I have found out he was living at 82 Finkle Street in 1841 and 1851. He worked as a Ostler (someone who looks after horses for a coaching inn) and his son Thomas Armstrong who was born in about 1825 was also working with horses as his occupation in 1851 is recorded as a horse trainer and he was living in Doncaster.
My Great great great grandmother Elizabeth (no maiden name) was born at Ginger Field which I believe is near Richmond/Catterick in 1791. I believe they had more children and Thomas was the youngest son but I can't find any trace of any siblings related to James and Elisabeth.
I would be greatful if someone had any information about coaching inns in Ripon about this time and if possible does 82 Finkle Street still exist? Are there any Armstrong still living in Ripon who might be related to my relatives and what about "Gingerfields", on todays maps there appears to be Lower Gingerfields and High Gingerfields, does anyone have any idea of the family names of people living in these areas in 1791?
Thanks for any help, Anthony Armstrong. |
