Brimham Rocks
After a huge river washed grit and sand down from Scottish mountains 320 million years ago, a delta formed over half of Yorkshire. Layers of the
grit built up over time and made sandstone, the exposed sections are seen today at Brimham Rocks.
Various weird and wonderful shapes have been created in the rocks from erosion, and a lot of the rocks have been named according to their
shape. For example, the dancing bear.
Brimham Rocks is 10 miles south east of Ripon, and is surrounded by miles of beautiful countryside. A truely fantastic day out for the whole
family, especially for anyone who likes to climb!
