1718, and extended over the years by his son, to create one of England's most important 18th Century Water Gardens.
Workhouse Museum
Set in the cell block which had originally
housed male vagrants in 1854, the museum has recreated the grim atmosphere in which workers were locked in cells at night, and released at daybreak
to work for food.
